Excuses, excuses! | |
What is your excuse for not studying the Bible? This is a KJV Bible study guide. Try these websites and see if any of these excuses sound familiar: http://fervr.net/bible/6-excuses-to-avoid-reading-the-bible http://www.womensbiblecafe.com/2010/07/25-excuses-for-not-participating-in-bible-study/ 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [We are commanded to study His word. I often wonder how many actually know that and comply? Study any way you choose to study, but study it completely. Get a complete picture of what the Bible is about]. 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [All of His word is good for study (front cover to back cover, old and new testaments). It can be used to convey His doctrine, for learning yourself, for teaching and correcting others. All of it]! What excuse will you use on judgment day for not studying His word? Might be something to think about. Get busy studying while you can. In addition, it may seem a strange thing to say, but we can be guilty of too much caring at times. We shouldn't spoil others with our kindness, nor should they demand unnecessary service of us; we should not be enablers of others bad habits. One such bad habit would be when a person is too lazy to read and study God's word on their own. Don't do for others what you can teach them to do for themselves. That is as much a golden rule as the better known one. In other words, give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, he can feed himself and others for a lifetime! This concept goes to another level also in feeding our spirits. If we share a single bit of God's truth with someone, we help them to feed their spirit for one day. If we teach someone how and where to find God's truths on their own, they can feed their spirits everyday for the rest of their lives; plus, they can share those truths with others. What a concept! Many people make New Years resolutions at the beginning of each year. One that should be at the top of everyone's list is reading and studying the Bible daily. Just going to church and hearing the pastor preach once a week isn't enough to help Christians live a victorious life. F. F. Bosworth once said, “Most Christians feed their flesh bodies three square meals each day but only feed their spirits one cold snack each week...Then they wonder why they are so weak in faith" When we think we don't have enough time to read the Bible, then we must examine our priorities. Reading the Bible is like taking in spiritual food. As Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 and Luke 4:4, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Every word, not just some words). Proverbs 4:20-21 says, “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart.” Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” Reading the Word helps us overcome false teachings, and traditions and commandments of men that we may have held onto previously. Jesus criticized the Pharisees for rejecting God’s commandments “...that you may keep your tradition“ (Mark 7:6-9). Not every sermon preached by a “minister” is guaranteed to be Biblically accurate. We should be like the Bereans who “...searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” (Acts 17:11) One pastor I know frequently reminds his congregation to read the word for themselves and not blindly accept everything he says as truth. Feed your spirit yourself, forever, with every word of God. ![]() | |
