Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has outlined five stages of AI development that will eventually lead to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The first stage consists of chatbots, followed by reasoners, which OpenAI claims has already been achieved with o1. The subsequent stages involve agents, innovators capable of scientific breakthroughs, and finally, fully autonomous organizations. This aligns with Altman’s previous statements about AI tools reaching a point where they can replicate the complete output of human workers. He shared with his tech CEO peers, “In my small group chat, there’s a betting pool for the first year a one-person, billion-dollar company emerges, something once unimaginable without AI.
