[God doesn't say “maybe” try the spirits; He says do it. In other words, don't believe everything you hear just because someone says it is from God. There are a lot of false prophets and teachers in the world today. To “try the spirits” means to check them out in God's word yourself; is it true or not according to God's word? Become personally familiar with God's Word and you will not be deceived (Acts 17:10-11 is a good example to follow). Remember that all true wisdom comes from God; Proverbs 1:7. If you want more true wisdom, ask Him; James 1:5]. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [Study God's Word and you will avoid deception. Be good workers; one who does not need to be ashamed and who "correctly" explains the Word of God. Follow the subject and object of each verse when you share the Word of God. Study to show thy self approved unto God, not man. Some preachers discourage their parishioners from studying their bibles when God, through Paul, commands us to study. I sure would not want to be in their shoes on judgment day]! 2 Timothy 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. [Avoid worthless, foolish talk, false teachings and traditions of men. They will only lead to more godless behavior in you and others]. Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. [Are you in this boat? Where do you place your trust? Jeremiah 17:7 tells you where you should place your trust]! These are just 4 of the 31,100+ verses in the KJV Bible that many could benefit from. How many verses are you actually familiar with? | |
