Free will? | |
Many Christians have different views on free will. While it's easy to become confused on how God's control and our own free will interact, we can trust the Word of God and know that what He has told us in the Bible is true. These Bible verses about free will show us that we have the ability to choose and have faith in God, being secure in our eternal life in heaven, or we can choose to turn from God and live apart from Him. Please use these KJV Scriptures to help you make wise choices! Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (The choice that each and everyone must eventually make is either eternal life or eternal death; choose wisely. Also, thy seed = your offspring, in other words, your choice affects those that come after you). Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (You have to serve somebody. Will it be the Lord, or will it be the devil)? Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! (Many chose not to come under the protection of Jesus; see Luke 13:34 also). Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Again, it is obvious, a choice must be made [free will to choose]. God leaves it up to us which choice we will make; we are not preprogrammed robots). Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Only two choices, eternal death or eternal life; make up your mind). All of us are told in scripture exactly what to expect based on our choices; blessings or cursings, eternal death or eternal life (God has given us free will to make a choice). Why act surprised? It's your choice; choose wisely. Deuteronomy 28:1-14; Blessings. Deuteronomy 28:1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: Deuteronomy 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Curses. Deuteronomy 28:15 "But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and over take thee," [“If thou shalt” and “if thou wilt not” are conditional. You have to choose one way or the other way; it takes decisive action on your part. See Jeremiah 17:5 and 7.] I believe these verses are really good illustrations of free will; in my opinion, they paint a pretty good picture of it. | |
