This occurs due to abnormal formation of the urethra during the 8-14 weeks of pregnancy. The urethral opening can appear anywhere along the underside of the penis, including at the scrotum. Depending on the location of the opening, the condition can be classified as either distal. The position of the opening of the urethra is altered. Also, if chordee is present then this is corrected to allow the penis to straighten. The foreskin is usually used during the operation to make the new urethra so it is important that a circumcision is not done before the corrective surgery is performed.  | |
