What is HIV Confirmative Test ?
A confirmatory test is performed in HIV testing to verify the findings of an initial screening test that shows the virus or antibodies to HIV are present. The purpose of the confirmatory test, which is usually more precise, is to validate or invalidate the first positive result. The Western Blot test is the most widely used HIV confirmatory test. The Western Blot Test is used to identify particular antibodies against HIV proteins. Compared to preliminary screening assays such as ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay), it is more specific. Western Blot analysis is often carried out to validate the result if the initial screening test yields positive results. To Know more watch this video.
